Geocache Description:

Although the cache name is Thrifty, the Scout Law point that would fit this cache more appropriately would have been "Reverant". Alas, that name was already assigned to one of my other caches sooooo, here we are with "Thrifty". The original idea for this cache was to highlight the cross country track by the Lynden High School that was built by a local eagle scout but we were able to place the cache near the school so we are highlighting the silver flag collection box which was an eagle scout project of a scout from a local troop, #4028.

This cache is part of my Eagle Scout project. Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest honor in Scouting. It takes years of hard work and dedication. You have to earn at least 21 merit badges, perform service in your community, help the environment, and take a leadership role in your troop. The Eagle project is the final requirement to become an Eagle Scout.

This geocache is one of 12 different geocaches at 12 different locations near other Eagle projects in and around Lynden for a Cache to Eagle series. “Cache to Eagle is a partnership between Geoscouting, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), and Geocaching.com to highlight Eagle projects across the nation” (Scouting News). This will help people know more about Geocaching and Scouts and help them get outdoors more.

This Eagle project highlighted here is the silver flag collection boxes for damaged flags. The eagle scout also placed collection boxes at the Lynden Cemetary and the Lynden VFW.

Boy Scouts support "Leave No Trace" awareness and have followed "Leave No Trace" principles with their own Outdoor Code since 1955. Feel free to practice Cache In Trash Out by taking a bag from the geocache and picking up any trash you might find on your way back to your vehicle.
