Geocache Description:


This cache is part of my Eagle Scout project. Becoming an Eagle Scout is the highest honor in Scouting. It takes years of hard work and dedication. You have to earn at least 21 merit badges, perform service in your community, help the environment, and take a leadership role in your troop. The Eagle project is the final requirement to become an Eagle Scout. 
 
The cache name (Friendly), is one of the points of the Scout Law. The Scout Law has 12 points. Each is a goal for every Scout. A Scout tries to live up to the Law every day. It is not always easy to do, but a Scout always tries.

This geocache is one of 12 different geocaches at 12 different locations near other Eagle projects in and around Lynden for a Cache to Eagle series. “Cache to Eagle is a partnership between Geoscouting, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), and Geocaching.com to highlight Eagle projects across the nation” (Scouting News). This will help people know more about Geocaching and Scouts and help them get outdoors more.

This cache highlights the "Berthusen Sign Updating Eagle Service Paroject." This project updated maps that were made in 2012 by an Eagle Scout. The maps needed to be updated and although the maps were great, there needed to be more so people didn't get lost in the park. So the Scout updated the existing 7 maps, created an identical map enclosure, and added trail markers to the existing trail marker posts at each intersection that coordinated with the map. The cost of the project was $800. Dispite the difficulty of the project the scout was glad to do it because it was really needed and will help people to not get lost as often at the park.

Boy Scouts support "Leave No Trace" awareness and have followed "Leave No Trace" principles with their own Outdoor Code since 1955. Feel free to practice Cache In Trash Out by taking a bag from the geocache and picking up any trash you might find on your way back to your vehicle.
