Geocache Description:

The Drove Arch went on a journey from Scotland to England, following the old stock Drove Route...... it was created in Locharbriggs Quarry - Dumfriesshire, and every night, it stayed in a derelict sheepfold...... it took on a life of its own, expressive of movement and of some kind of animal. When it left, it left behind a trail of goodwill....... all the derelict sheepfolds were re-built. It also visited many other places for temporary stops and re-building: Drovers Lane (Carlisle), The Farmers Mart - Longtown, Town End Farm Clifton, The Old Scotch Road, the M6 at Shap - to name but a few. This is its final resting place, in a former derelict sheepfold where there was once a small hut....... I had the privilege of building this Arch with the artist, taking it on its journey and working on the reconstruction of this former fold and hut - dedicated to the memory of Toby. For further information, see 'Arch' - Thames & Hudson 1999 by Andy Goldsworthy & David Craig.
