Geocache Description:

In Portland, OR I found a geocache called 44 Steps: the Doomsday Descent...which is about a Civil Defense Center. They became popular in the 1950s and 1960s as a result of the Cold War and fear of nuclear threat. There was even a movie made about it titled A Day Called X.

To my joy and surprise New Orleans had their very own Civil Defense Control Center.

Here is my red letter writing warning. I will always try to bring you somewhere interesting and usually rich with history. Homeless people have lived in this area. They are not wild animals and do not bite. I don't think anyone lives there now. The entrance is pretty nasty so BE CAREFUL! It's still a pretty cool area to explore so see the area and be careful. The hide is a lock and lock and should be a straight forward hide. Enjoy and have fun.
