This is the eighth in a series will take you to pieces of artwork, sculptures or down right goofy things that I thought would be fun for people to take their pictures with. I find that even though going to meet and greet events that it is still hard to put faces to cacher names and thought that through these "selfies" it would be a great way to get to know others in this hobby. While a photo is not required, it would make this old rum addled barnacle encrusted octopus fart a happy fellow if you included one.
Work gets the credit for revealing this hidden item to me. The UW Madison school of Art is located here and this object has made me do some reflection on the evolution of man. Particularly in respects to the missing link. The missing link is an unscientific term for transitional fossils. It is often used in popular science and in the media for any new transitional form. The term originated to describe the hypothetical intermediate form in the evolutionary series of anthropoid ancestors to modern humans. The term was influenced by the pre-Darwinian evolutionary theory of the Great chain of Being (wink, wink) and the notion that simple organisms are more primitive than complex organisms. When I was asking for permission to place this cache, I inquired about its origin and why it was made. I got “don’t know” for all of my questions. Very much like how fossils show up and know one knows why or how they got there. Let the mysteries continue as to where fossils come from.
This will be an easy peasy park and grab. You may have problems getting your GPS to settle down, so use your Geo-sense. This is just like another one of the "Picture This" stops.
