Wil je de locatie weten van de grootste schatten uit de geschiedenis van de Verenigde Staten (goud, zilver, juwelen, je weet wel, de standaard inhoud van een schatkist)? Daar hoef je enkel en alleen maar de Beale Cijfers voor te ontcijferen. Thomas Jefferson Beale was de eerste die de schat vond, in 1818. Maar slechts één van de drie cijferteksten is ontcijferd door de knappe koppen die zich erover gebogen hebben. De anderen blijven nog altijd een mysterie (en een zeer winstgevende, dus je kan voorstellen dat de interesse naar dit vraagstuk hoog is!). Die ene reeds ontcijferde tekst werd ontcijferd met de hulp van de Onafhankelijkheids verklaring! Helaas komen we er niet erg ver mee, want deze tekst informeert ons alleen over de regio: Bedford County. Dat is toch net even iets te groot om op ‘goed gevoel’ te gaan graven. Hoewel het een hoop goudjagers niet heeft tegengehouden!

Are you eager to know the location of the greatest treasures from the history of the United States (gold, silver, jewels, you know, the standard contents of a treasure chest)? There you only and only need the Beale Figures for deciphering. Thomas Jefferson Beale was the first who found the treasure in 1818. But only one of the three ciphered texts was effectively deciphered by the bright minds that bent over. The others still remain a mystery (and a very profitable one, so you can imagine that the interest in this issue is high!). That one already deciphered text was deciphered with the help of the Declaration of Independence! Unfortunately we did not get very far with it, because this text informs us only about the region: Bedford County. That's just a little too big to "feel good" to go digging. Even though lot of gold hunters did not stop!
