Welcome to the Horseshoe Trail near Lake Grapevine, where there are a variety of paved and dirt trails. Please see photos for the posted trail map.
Trails are great for hiking, running, biking, dog walking and…. geocaching!
Please note:
- Potential places to park are provided in the waypoints.
- GPSr bounced around while placing the caches, so coordinates may or may not be accurate.
- Almost all caches are in an evergreen tree.
- All caches, except one, are bison tubes.
- All caches are near a trail of some kind.
- More dirt trails exist than those shown on the geocaching trail map (at this time).
- Watch for bikes when on the trails (signs indicate which direction the bikes should go, see photo).
- Be prepared for a good 3 mile walk (mostly flat), should one decide to find all caches in one outing.
- Water fountain located near Butterfly Trail #10 cache.
- Restrooms (portable toilet) located near both parking waypoints.
- Gnome was sighted near Butterfly Trail #7 cache (see waypoint).
- Clues, if needed, for the bonus puzzle cache can be found on the log sheets of the other Butterfly Trail caches.
- There are several paths one can take to the bonus puzzle cache. Butterflies just might guide the way along one possible trail (see waypoint on bonus cache for starting point), then the butterflies just might continue onward to the main road near the northern parking area.
- Please bring your own pen.
- Be sure to bring plenty of drinking water, especially in hot weather!
FYI - the clue in this cache is a duplicate of a clue in another cache along the trail. So puzzle can be solved without finding this cache. Just saying. :)
