Welcome to the 10th Sideroad North. If you have not been here before you may not know that:
- It is a closed and currently unused road allowance in the Township of Puslinch. The allowance leads to the Speed River, where an iron bridge used to cross the river and connect to Sideroad 10 South.
- It is the start of a well used dog park encompassing the road allowance.
- It serves as an access lane to the quarry properties on either side. Former quarry operations are seen on both sides. As clearly indicated, adjacent lands are marked with "No Tresspassing" signs. The road allowance IS a public space and the township permits access for non-intrusive recreational activities. We presume geocaching falls within the domain of acceptable usage.
- Through some bizarre bit of mis-information, Google Maps labels this area as "Whitelaw Road Park" with hiking trails to the east and south. Google is incorrect. There is no "park" here! Access to the Speed River is permitted. Access to the quarry land on the east is not.
- The Guelph-Cambridge Hiking Trail (orange blazes) maintained by the Guelph Hiking Trail Club follows the road allowance to the point where it turns west onto private lands.
I recently had an incident here where I was informed that the road allowance was private property and I was trespassing as I attempted to access the trail. The individual was mis-informed. I hope that nobody visiting this cache - or my "Bridge Out" cache - encounters any similar issue with factually challenged individuals.
This open section of the trail has the abandoned gravel quarries on both sides. Although you will observe visitors walking the trails on the east side, "No Tresspassing" signage is visible and very clear.
Did I mention this area is used as a leash-free dog park as well? To find this one you will need to step off the gravel path. This should be well clear of the "Drop Zone" but ... um ... watch your step just the same!
