This cache is placed in the small village of Thorne St Margaret.
Thorne St Margaret is a village in the Civil Parish of Wellington Without in the Taunton Deane district of Somerset, England. It is situated 3 miles west of Wellington, between the river Tone and the Bristol and Exeter railway. The parish includes Holywell Lake which is one of the Thankful Villages which lost no men in World War 1.The parish of Thorne St Margaret was part of the Milverton Hundred. The Church of St Margaret serves a parish population of about 50.
The picturesque little church at Thorne St. Margaret is dedicated to St. Margaret of Antioch, whose saint’s day is celebrated on 20th July and who is the patron saint of child-bearing.
The church is built of hard red sandstone in the Early English style and parts of the church originate from then despite being restored and largely rebuilt in 1865. The font dates from Saxon times and being more than 1000 years old, is one of the oldest in this area. Other parts dating from the ancient church are the tower, the screen forming part of the vestry wall and some windows. Also worth noting is a curious old brass plate taken from the old church (circa 1610) and has engraved on it an effigy of John Worth and the coat of arms of this local family.
You will need to collect some information around the church grounds and do some simple sums (you do not need to enter the church itself) this will help you to obtain the correct co-ords to find the cache.
First you will need to go to the posted co-ords which will take you to the Church gate entrance, the number of curved spikes on both gates will give you A B
You will need to enter the porch, the number of wooden uprights on one side the porch will give you C
Next you will need to go clockwise around the Church to find the grave In Loving Memory of John J Stone who fell asleep 23rd of March 195D aged 65 also Clara Annie who died 29th 1E63
Last but not least you will need to find the headstone of Minne Boon who departed this life 12th September 1978 aged F8
