The first Formula 1 race at the Yas Marina Circuit, a Hermann Tilke designed track took place on 1 November 2009.
This inaugural race was Formula One's first ever day/night race, starting at 17:00 local time. Floodlights used to illuminate the circuit were switched on from the start of the event to ensure a seamless transition from daylight to darkness. All Formula 1 races held at this track have been day/night races.
This year Lewis Hamilton easily won the race from pole position to chequered flag after 55 laps of the 5.554 km (3.451 mi) circuit.
On the podium were Lewis Hamilton/Mercedes, Max Verstappen/Red Bull Racing and Charles Leclerc/Ferrari.
However Leclerc/Ferrari were under investigation for under reporting the fuel load in his car and he stood to be demoted further down in the standings. After it was all said and done, Ferrari was fined €50,000 for what had been a 4.88kg discrepancy and the result stood. Fastest lap time was set by Lewis Hamilton with a time of 1:39.283
This was the last race of the season and the last race of the decade.
