Acknowledgement of Country: I would like to pay my respects to the First People: the traditional custodians of the lands and waterways of Ngunnawal Country. I would like to acknowledge that this geocache has been placed on what always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
The cache is not as the posted coordinates; however this is a single off-set multi cache where you have to visit the posted coordinates to calculate the coordinates for GZ.
This cache has been hidden during the lead-up to my Festivus 2019 event, which will be held in the park next to the Chifley shops. WP1 and GZ are very close to the event site; and geocachers should hopefully be able to quickly gather the answers, quickly walk to GZ and easily find the cache. I hope that this cache will be a fine addition to what should hopefully be a very fun evening - a Festivus for the rest of us!
Chifley is named after Ben Chifley (1885-1951) - the 16th Prime Minister of Australia, who formerly led the Labor party and contributed to the expansion of the welfare state, immigration and the Snowy Hydro Electric Scheme. And the Chifley shops is one of my current favourite places to visit with friends and family! The playgrounds and basketball court next to the shops are awesome for the children; there are plenty of picnic tables about; and the wider grass area is lovely for walks.
Parking at the shops can sometimes be quite packed during the day. If parking is full, try parking at the spaces on the side of Eggleston Cres; on the side of other nearby streets; or at the nearby community hub.
At the posted coordinates, you will find a very nicely crafted entrance sign to the Chifley shops with a plaque about Ben Chifley. There are eight lines of text on this plaque. Using letter values (A=1, B=2, C=3, Z=26, etc), calcuate the letter values of the following in order to calculate GZ. Please note, for the purposes of this puzzle, that numerical years (eg. 1885, 1954) count as words.
A = 7th line, 5th word, 6th letter
B = 6th line, 2nd word, 4th letter
C = 8th line, 3rd word, 3rd letter
D = 3rd line, 2nd word, 4th letter
E = 4th line, 2nd word, 1st letter
GZ is then located at: S 35° 21.A0B E 149° 04.CDE (Checksums: S = 22, E = 33)
The cache is then not too far of a walk away; which should hopefully make for a pleasant walk. At GZ, the container is a bison tube. Please make sure to roll up the log properly when replacing; and please be stealthy at GZ.
