Geocache Description:

20 December 2019, 06:30 - 07:00

According to a well-used online reference website, the winter solstice, hiemal solstice or hibernal solstice, also known as midwinter, occurs when one of the Earth's poles has its maximum tilt away from the Sun. It happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere. In this year, this will occur on Sunday, 22 December 2019.

If one keeps reading, the winter solstice is also linked to ‘celebrations’, such as ‘festivals’, ‘spending time with loved ones’, ‘feasting’, ‘singing’, ‘dancing’, and ‘fires’. Astronomically, the winter solstice marks the beginning of lengthening days and shortening nights – for me, at the end of a veeeery looong school term, this day is the start of my 'celebrations’, so I thought “why not share such merriment with fellow like-minded cachers who may be up at this daft hour”.

I shall be sat in the corner of a well-known coffee house with a name that is linked to 'solstice', from between 6.30-7:00, at which time I will have to then leave sharpish so as to receive the many gifts the grateful students at school will pile upon me (maybe….)!
