Bulshoek Dam is an important resource of water for farmers alongside the Olifants River. The water of the Bulshoek Dam is released into a canal system that runs for more thanr 83km serving 9 330 ha of listed land. Bulshoek dam was completed in 1914 and has a total capacity of approximately 6.55 million mโ3;. Just a few years later, growing irrigation demands required the building of Clanwilliam dam, about 24 kilometres upstream on the Olifants river.
Bulshoek dam is a popular water-sports destination and also offers some of the finest smallmouth bass fishing in the country.
