Geocache Description:

This is one of 12 caches placed for CAM 2020. You are required to find the nine physical caches and have your choice for number 10. It will be between 2 virtuals and a wherigo.

If you find all twelve, you will receive a special icon to download and put on your geocaching profile. Each location was picked specifically to give cachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all of the caches, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them!

CAM 2020 - Frederick Walkabout

This Wherigo will take you on a walking tour of parts of historic downtown Frederick, the second-largest incorporated city in Maryland.  This town is rich in history, from old Indian trails, to original European settlement by German Palatinates in 1745, to establishment of multiple centers of religion, a crossroads of trade & commerce, involvement in three major wars (French and Indian, Revolutionary and Civil Wars), and continual change and growth over the last 275 years.  It is home to a thriving fine and performing arts community, an entrepreneurial spirit, epicurean adventures, and a small-town neighborhood feel in the downtown area.  Take a walk and see what you discover.

Please pay attention to and obey all traffic and crosswalk signals.  It’s suggested that you cross streets only at marked crosswalks, as traffic can get heavy at times.  Pedestrians and vehicles tend to play well together here, and we don’t want to change that.

Plan to pay for parking.  All street parking is metered (maximum 2 hours), and three parking decks are nearby:

    - Carroll Creek Parking Deck (access from S. Market or E. Patrick streets),

    - Church Street Parking Deck (access from N. Market or E. Church streets),

    - Court Street Parking Deck (access from S. Court Street)

The decks charge $1.00 per hour - cash or credit - as you return to your car (payment is NOT accepted at the exit gates).

***With COVID19 restrictions in place, street parking is very limited on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Your best bet is the parking decks on those days.***

You will want to take your car to the final location of this cache (the cartridge will tell you when).  Please note that the actual cache is NOT available 24/7 (gates are locked overnight), but the walk up to that point is. Feel free to take your time on your walk and enjoy the journey!
