Dolerite is an igneous rock that formed when molten magma was forced from below the mantle through cracks in the basement rocks of the ancient Karoo. As it came to the surface, it cooled into rounded boulders. Some of these are larger than a truck, and others are quite small. They can be stacked into hills several hundred metres high, or they can be quite insignificant piles of stones. A few may be concentrated together and may warrant the term mollotain, but for the most part they are more accurately called hills (or in Afrikaans “koppie”). Dolerite is a hard, dense rock with a high concentration of iron. The Afrikaans name is ysterklip or ironstone. Do yourself a favour and take any metal object like a wheel spanner and tap these rocks to listen to the gong sound. If you can get a perfect G note, a Genie may just appear ;)
On this somewhat monotonous road you will find this interesting clump of rocks. Passing by I wondered “Where are you from”, hence my title for this cache. Therefore, I would like to ask that when you log this cache you tell where you are from.
