With the archiving of The Witches Bargarran, https://coord.info/GC74JCY, I decided to include this bit of history in my Wee Bits o' Paisley series.
In 1697, the 10 year old daughter of the Laird of Bargarran fell ill. Having apparently been cursed by one of the servants of her father, a witch-hunt ensued. Initially, the accusation was only against Catherine/Katherine Campbell but eventually 35 people were implicated.
Of these, only 7 were brought to trial and found guilty of witchcraft. Of those found guilty, one hung himself, and the 6 others were strangled and burned at the stake on 10th June 1697, on Gallow Green. Little of this remains, but you are now standing at the site of the memorial wreath laying in 2010, 313 years after the event.
The remains were buried at Maxwellton Cross and the grave sealed with a horsehoe and cobbles to prevent the "witches" spirits from returning to haunt the living. One of the women had, after all, invoked a dying woman's curse upon all those present and their descendants in perpetuity. Please refer to the Waypoint for this location. Note that it is in the middle of a busy junction, so is only viewable from the pavement.

As with many urban caches, there is a potential for litter at the Final.
