The artistic concept for the park (2014)
O’Shea Park is a city park at the intersection of I-96 and Greenfield Road that recently reopened after a huge renovation to the original site and was celebrated with a community event in the Summer of 2019.
The park features many updated and up-to-date ammenities including a unique distinction of having one of the regions largest Solar Arrays for renewable power.
O’Shea Solar Park generates more than electricity – it also is home to an urban pollinator garden between the rows of solar panels. The pollinator garden utilizes Michigan native plants, and are chosen specifically to benefit bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, moths and other pollinators in the area. The pollinator garden at O’Shea Solar Park is one of many that are now managed and maintained to ensure their success.
The pollinator plants have been known to be critical to our food, air and water supply, and had declined over the last couple of decades.
O’Shea park also includes a bioretention garden, resurfaced basketball courts, walking paths, play fields, a community gathering space with seating, new trees and native flower beds.
The park had been an abandoned, blighted recreation area, and has now been renewed for the public to enjoy. It has been returned to productive use in a way that benefits the neighborhood and its residents.
