Geocache Description:

Rather than reading the sign, admire the Belgian horses from a distance while you hunt for the cache.  Do not cross the fence!  It is not necessary to pay any entrance fee to access this cache. This is a great cache in which to leave a travel bug - we expect many history buffs to visit this cache!

Andrew Jackson, the 7th President, preceeded by John Quincy Adams and followed by Martin Van Buren, was known as the Peoples President.   He dearly loved his wife Rachel Donelson, who died soon after the announcement that he had won the presidential election, and right before he had to leave the Hermitage to journey to  Washington to form a government.   Andrew Jackson and his wife, Rachel, are buried together in a tomb located in the beautiful historic garden, known as Rachel's Garden because she loved it so.   https://thehermitage.com/learn/mansion-grounds/jacksons-tomb/

Andrew Jackson wrote the epitaph for his beloved wife Rachel.

"Here lie the remains of Mrs. Rachel Jackson, wife of President Jackson, who died December 22nd 1828, aged 61. Her face was fair, her person pleasing, her temper amiable, and her heart kind. She delighted in relieving the wants of her fellow-creatures, and cultivated that divine pleasure by the most liberal and unpretending methods. To the poor she was a benefactress; to the rich she was an example; to the wretched a comforter; to the prosperous an ornament. Her pity went hand in hand with her benevolence; and she thanked her Creator for being able to do good. A being so gentle and so virtuous, slander might wound but could not dishonor. Even death, when he tore her from the arms of her husband, could but transplant her to the bosom of her God."

Although there is an entrance fee to the Jackson Plantation home, admission is free on the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, January 8,  and half price on the anniversary of Andrew Jackson's birthday, March 15.  The Hermitage is the nations third most visited Presidential home, and we are grateful to the staff of the Hermitage, for supporting the placement of a geo cache on the grounds of the Hermitage.  The staff welcome geocachers to this Presidential site.
