Geocache Description:

Wakefield Park

The Wakefield Park circuit was built by Paul Samuels and John Carter and was opened officially by NSW Premier John Fahey and Formula 1 World Champion Sir Jack Brabham in November 1994.

There is no parking on the roadside near GZ. Refer to the marked parking area as there is plenty of space just outside the entrance of the track.

This area may not seem like the spot you'd have a race track, but racing has never been very far away. Goulburn is steeped in motorsport history, having been the scene of the very first Australian Grand Prix for motor cars in January 1927. You may like to find The First Grand Prix for more about that piece of history.

Today, the circuit thrives as a facility focused around competitor satisfaction and hosts every type of car-related activity imaginable, including club sprints, time attack events, manufacturer drive days, driver training programs, state championship race meetings, PROCAR, Shannons Nationals, endurance races, Superbikes and the V8 Supercars Development Series.

The cache is named after the Jimmy Barnes song "Driving Wheels" which appears on his Freight Train Heart album released in 1987. The song spent 5 weeks at the top of the Australian Album charts in December 1987 and January 1988. The song was co-written by Jimmy Barnes and American musican Johnathon Cain.

Watch Jimmy in action singing Driving Wheels in that special, gravelly way only Jimmy delivers.
