When Waynesburg Borough was formed in 1796 the land you are looking at was declared “The Commons”. The Waynesburg Commons consisted of 7 parks known as Sunset Park, Sunrise Park, West Park, Ritchie Park, College Park, Monument Park and East Park. The parks are comprised of approximately 40 acres subdivided into seven individual parks the size of one city block. There were three Common areas set aside by the trustees. Sunset Park is west of West Street and north of High Street is one of the areas that were set aside. Sunrise Park is located east of East Street and south of Greene Street is a second areas that was set aside. A large area north of North Street (now Wayne Street) extending across the length of the borough from West Street to East Street. You will be spending most of your time strolling across this large area that stretches across the borough and is divided into five parks. At one time this land was used for cutting timber for firewood and lumber, kilns were erected for the making of bricks, community burial plots were set up here (later plots were moved when the decision to make parks were made), and the pasturing of farm animals such as cows, horses and hogs all permitted to run at large for decades.
I added a set of four caches to these parks to coincide with the Adventure Lab Cache that I have also put together using these 5 parks on the largest plot of land. The adventure Lab Cache is called “Take A Stroll Through “The Commons””. You have to do the Adventure Lab Cache in order to get the final cords for the mystery cache. Hope you enjoy the Adventure Lab Cache and the other caches hidden in these parks.
I have tried to get you to all 7 parks:
“The Commons” Multi (GC8GYCT) – stage 1 is in West Park and stage 2 is in Ritchie Park.
“The Commons” Traditional 1 (GC8GYD1) – is located in College Park.
(I could not place a cache in Monument Park because of too many other caches in the area. You will go through this park for The adventure Lab Cache: “Take A Stroll Through “The Commons””. You also need to go through this park to get to East Park.)
“The Commons” Mystery (GC8GYC9) – is in East Park. You have to do the Adventure Lab Cache in order to get the final cords for the mystery cache. CACHE IS NOT AT THE LISTED COORDINATES.
(I could not place a cache in Sunset Park because of too many other caches in the area. The closest one is “Cache” in your prayers – GC3W5VC – Placed by: PAminerIII. After finding this cache cross the road and Sunrise Park is located behind the Baptist Church.
“The Commons” Traditional 2 (GC8GYD5) – can be found in Sunrise Park.
Now if you were willing to do all the caches you could have visited all 7 parks – the old Waynesburg Borough Commons.
