Lujing Lu has changed dramatically over the last decade. Ten years ago it was heavily dominated by African or Middle Eastern export-oriented businesses, with a residential concentration of Africans in the dense urban village just to the west of the street. As costs have risen, however, many of the traders have moved out, and the shops have either shuttered, been replaced by banks, or converted to a more typical retail and commercial mix. (As in many areas undergoing rapid change, the mix of activities will probably have undergone another transformation within a few year.) The area still has a strong and vibrant African and Middle Eastern presence, but is now much more mixed.
When implemented in 2010 the Donghaochong Greenway did not extend to Luhu Park but rather ended at Xiaobei. This northward extension along Lujing Lu was implemented a few years later.
