Cueva del Tendal archaeological park.
Five excavation campaigns have been conducted in El Tendal Cave (1981, 1983,1985, 1986 and 1987-88). Work has carried out on the center and the left side of the cavity. Thousands of pieces were excavated including pottery fragments, rock pieces, bone samples from domestic animals, fish remains and sea shells, which have given the valuable information on the customs of the ancient dwellers in this settlement and what they did.
El Tendal Cave dwelling has unbeatable living conditions as fas as dimensions, light, exposure and weather protection is concerned.
It's a large natural cave, about 60 meters wide and a maximum of 15 meters deep. The mouth is on the lower part of the left bank of the San Juan Gorge, facing south, and perfectly protected from the prevailing winds in the area. A large family of up to at least 15-20 individuals could have lived inside.
The Benahoaries made and used countless objects that helped them with their everyday tasks easier, to protect them from bad weather, or simply as personal adornments. The raw materials were obtained from nature. Hundreds of years practice made them excellent craftsmen, making a wide range of utensils of extraordinary quality, including an enormous wealth and variety of decorative elements used, especialy in pottery and for bone adornments.
