Welcome to the Tauranga Valley.
Tau "arrive" Ranga "alight" - this is a recognised landing and resting place for waka on the Waioweka river.
Settlers tried and failed to farm the Tauranga Valley, but today you can explore the valley on foot or mountain bike by taking the path down to the river from the parking area and across the historic bridge.
The walk to the bridge, which provides the only access to the valley, takes just 5 minutes, but you can extend this walk with an approx 2hr loop walk that includes 2 stream crossings (which should only be attempted in low flow).
This cache is a preform container tucked in under the end of the bridge. please be careful retrieving and replacing, and don't drop it (or yourself) down the bank. BYO pen.
