The first Barney Point Bridge over the Tweed River at Banora Point/Chinderah was opened on 11 July 1936. This bridge replaced the Chinderah ferry. The original bridge was in use for 60 years.
A new and much larger bridge was built and opened on 10 October 1996, due to much higher volume of traffic that travels on the Pacific Motorway going north and south over the Tweed River.
There is a parking area at where the cache is located. You are located beside the Tweed River and recommend while you are there to walk around and take in the views of the river.
Where you park the car in the car park is where the highway was for the old bridge.
