A social event in the Red Dragon Sat 29th Feb, 1-3pm to celebrate Leap day.
A brief History of Leap years
The leap year was introduced in 1066, and despite it not being the most common reason for seemingly everybody remembering this year in history it has certainly lasted a lot longer than the famous battle! And yes, it isn't divisible by 4 either!!
It all started when it was finally confirmed that a year was actually a little longer than 365 days earlier in the century, but the powers of the time made the mistake of holding a referendum resulting in the final decision to implement the withdrawal from the Uni-Eon Union being delayed by 42 years.
Once finally implemented the first 200 years of its existence took the form of adding 10 days to every 40th year which worked great because the average life expectancy was only 33 years resulting in the majority of people having to live through the confusion only once in a life time.
However, eventually accountants began to gain power and enforced a change to the 1 day every 4 years system we use today insisting that it was 9 times less disruptive but ignoring the fact that you now had to endure it 10 times more often! Suffice to say, the one constant during this period, and indeed in modern history, was accountants logic!!
Eventually a king's advisor called Oscar Charles Dingbat forced through a change so that the 4th year also had to be divisible by 4 with effect from 1444 thus giving us the leap year we know today as well as accidentally inventing TLAs and Four Play at the same time.
And if you believe any of that ........... 😂😂😂😂

So, who fancies a bit of celebration for what is an important day in anybody's calendar but especially for geocachers who have been waiting patiently to complete their "Finds for Each Day of the Year" Grid.
Why not come along and enjoy the usual chit chat, a drink and some excellent good value food, all welcome, even those with full grids already, and newcomers are especially welcome as always.
The venue has plenty of free parking and will be serving food for anyone who wants to eat.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as can make it! If it is your first event or you don’t know anyone attending then drop me a message and I’ll keep an eye out for you 😊
Proposals
To avoid disappointment on the day, could anybody wishing to propose please include it in their Will Attend Logs. That way if the intended is not at the event then take it as a No and just have a good time anyway 😊
