This war memorial was erected for the men of what was then three small villages on the outskirts of Darlington, those of Haughton le Skerene, Barmpton and Great Burdon, though most of this area has now been engulfed by the main town. There are 18 men listed, on either side of the memorial, which is on a small green at what can be a very busy junction at times.
