Geocache Description:

(ENG) The nature park of Viljandi was founded in 1964 to preserve and protect the landscape, that includes the lake and its surroundings. Geologically formed urstromtäler of Viljandi and Raudna are the oldest in the hill chain of Sakala.

Many legends and myths are related to the urstromtal of Viljandi. The most known, of course, is the story about the boatman of Viljandi. The beginning of this legend can be considered when the Estonian lyrics of a Latvian tune were made. The original is the song „The Boatman of Gauja“ made by the Latvian composer Alfreds Vinters. In 1936 Johannes Porisammul, the leader of a jazz orchestra, made the Estonian lyrics.

You can listen to this song by Ants Eskola from the year 1937 while searching.

Tuntuim neist on muidugi lugu Viljandi paadimehest. Selle legendi alguseks võib pidada hetke, mil Läti viisile eestikeelsed sõnad tehti... Originaal on Läti helilooja Alfreds Vintersi laul „Gauja paadimees“ ja eestikeelsed sõnad tegi džässorkestri juht Johannes Porisammul 1936. aastal.
Otsimise ajal võid kuulata seda laulu Ants Eskola esituses aastast 1937.
