From 1904 to 1935, the Wenonah Military Academy educated many boys through four years of high school course work, starting with boys as young as 10 years old. In addition to schoolwork, the Academy practiced military drill and pushed athletics heavily among the youth.
The school was founded by Major John R. Jones, who organized the school and served as its first superintendent. It was later led by L. Leslie "The Bull" Lammert, who was the head of the school until it closed its doors in the midst of the Great Depression.
Lammert was particularly beloved as the school's sports coach, and alumni went on to excel at college and even the professional level. Most famous of the athletes that were products of Wenonah was Hall of Fame Pitcher Herb Pennock, who went on to play for the Philadelphia Athletics, Red Sox, and the Yankees and is considered one of the greatest left handed pitchers in history.
Cache is a regular lock top container hidden along the trails of Wenonah Woods. Trails are open dawn to dusk, please be respectful of the hours. This cache has a slightly higher terrain rating than my usual caches, as the trail has a lot of ups and downs (my kids love this trail), and the ground zone can be a bit slippery.
Congrats to gumshoeDOTus on the FTF!
