This canyon is a special one. It's a branch of the Bad Canyon system, so it has all of those attributes; it's like a little slice of Utah right here in Stillwater County. There's rocky overhangs, tight slot canyons, tons of birds of prey, tons of wildlife, the canyon seems almost alive because of the active geology and all the wildlife. The Derby Fire tore through this canyon with incredible heat, and most of the trees died, but they left fertile ground for chokecherries and wild roses in particular. During cherry season, watch for bears. During any season, watch for mountain lions. Most of all, watch your footing. It's a crumbly, slippery canyon floor.
This cache is pretty high up in this branch of the canyon. It's a slog. On paper, it doesn't look like much, but vines and thorns seem to thwart your ascent. Definitely wear jeans, or your legs will be shredded.
The cache itself is a simple pill bottle, wrapped in black Gorilla Tape. There's not much room for tradeables. We put in our usual Malaysian coins, as well as a couple cool magnets from a Wyoming cache. There's no room for a pen, so BYOP.
