Ginger Meggs, Australia's most popular and longest-running comic strip, was created in the early 1920s by Jimmy Bancks.
The strip follows the escapades of a red-haired prepubescent mischief-maker who lives in an inner suburban working-class household.
Jimmy produced the comic strip from 1921 to 1952 when he passed away from a heart attack. There have been many other authors over the years. The current author is Jason Chatfield.

Why is this park named Ginger Meggs Park?
Jimmy was born in Enmore, New South Wales, Australia on 10 May 1889.
The character was based on Bancks's best friend, Charlie Somerville. Charlie was a resident of Hornsby.
Jimmy spent time in Hornsby during his childhood.
After Bancks's death, there was a year's worth of strips to run while another artist was found.
On 26 July 1997 the Mayor of Hornsby, formally named this park after Bancks's character Ginger Meggs.
The adjacent creek was named Jimmy Bancks Creek.
