Hieronymus Jerome was a Latin priest, confessor, theologian, and historian, commonly known as Saint Jerome. He was born at Stridon, a village near Emona on the border of Dalmatia and Pannonia, and is best known for his translation of the Bible into Latin, as well as his many commentaries on the Holy Gospels. His feast day is celebrated by Roman Catholics on September 30th.
Tamaqua's St. Jerome Roman Catholic Parish is no more - it and the former Sts. Peter & Paul Parish were combined several years ago to form St. John XXIII Parish. However, the St. Jerome Parish Cemetery remains here, in a quiet corner of northwest Tamaqua. Several members of my family are interred here, and several of my good friends are, too.
Please respect the grounds here and cache only during daylight hours. Also, please enter and exit the cemetery via the 'upper' road, adjacent Vine Street, as the lower road is in disrepair.
