Cache #4: Mt Pocono Borough, incorporated 1927

Mount Pocono was incorporated as a borough in 1927. Calvin Coolidge is president, it's the second millenium, and the country is enjoying the "modernity" of the Roaring Twenties. On April 1, coincidently, the U.S. Bureau of Prohibition is founded under the Department of Treasury.

A total lunar eclipse took place on May 3, 1920, the day I chose to publish this cache, but alas, COVID-19 prevented that. It was visible from North America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Antarctica.

The Academy Awards are founded on May 11. Henry Ford sells his 15 millionth Model T, the United States is halfway through the Prohibition years, and the first talking motion picture, "The Jazz Singer," is released. On October 4, the carving of the sculptures at Mount Rushmore begins. In November, the Holland Tunnel opens to traffic, as the first vehicular tunnel under the Hudson River, linking New Jersey with NYC. December 2, Ford unveils the Model A, and the following day, Laurel & Hardy debut their first film, and the world population reaches 2 billion.

Thanks so much to Lori of the Mt Pocono borough for facilitating the approval process for placing this geocache!
