Geocache Description:

In the early 1930's a need arose for a place of worship for the farmers and the holiday makers around Kleinbrak. In 1938 Mrs Helena Robertson donated a property for the construction of the church. The local community started to raise funds but the plans were too expensive to build. An architecht, a Mr W Louw then came up with a plan that would make the church suitable for multiple purposes and ensure that it came in under budget. The design was based on the shape of an octagon with 8 sturdy pillars and the walls inbetween. Three walls were built from bricks with the other 5 from wood panels. Each of these 5 walls was made into 2 sections so that they could fold open to the outside. Additional wooden benches were situated on the outside to provide more seeting when the wooden panels were opened. This ensured that the capacity of the church could be doubled. Outside the chuchbell hung between 2 pillars with a chain for calling the worshippers but also for the naughty boys to play with. The bell currently hangs inside the church. The inventory consisted of a pulpit, 160 stinkwood chairs, a piano and chair. Most of the original chairs are still there. The church was oficially opened on 24 December 1939 and Rev. W.A. de Klerk gave the first sermon. This year it celebrated its 80th birthday.
