Geocache Description:

Important Notes:

  1. THIS CACHE IS NOT AT THE POSTED CO-ORDINATES.
  2. Firstly, please ensure you hide these Cache sufficiently from muggle passers-by, some are attractive to the eye.
  3. If you are going to attempt these series in one go, depending on the order that you find them you can expect to cover 20km or more. Prepare your backpack appropriately, pack plenty of water and food. There are some wonderful spots to sit and have a sandwich, if-fact you probably won’t be able to take enough sandwiches to stop at all of them.
  4. DOGS are not permitted in the Reserve.

History

In 1851 the first GOLD was found in Victoria, in Warrandyte. For sure there is still some GOLD in these hills and on your journey, maybe you will be lucky!

Gold mining is known to have extended east of Warrandyte into the Wonga Park area. Reports suggest a seam of quartz running through Wonga Park, commencing at Birt's Hill, with washings of gold having been found in Jumping Creek.

In the 1880’s, Alluvial gold mining areas are known to have been located along Jumping Creek and the Yarra River, to the north of Jumping Creek Road.

A mining shaft, said to be some 200 feet deep, is located on Yarra Brae close to the house. It is said to have been the last one sunk in Warrandyte. The shaft has been bricked in and storm water from the house is drained into the shaft.

There was also said to have been a mine accessed from original entry to Stane Brae, close to the corner of Hartley and Jumping Creek Roads. Locals recall their uncles used to mine along Jumping Creek between Stane Brae Court in the early 1900’s.

This Cache Series

This is a series of 35 cache, and for a long time I have wanted to attempt some GeoArt, so here it is. This series:

  1. Many of these caches can be found by solving the easy math on the cache page, once you determine the value of GOLD. You can then head to the GZ.
  2. There are also 8 clues to collect on the way around to enable you to find the final cache (The lock).

SOLVE

1) You will need to collect the clues in the other cache in these series to find this final cache

2) Find the sign using the found clues:

S 37° 4(E-A).(CxD)(A-D)(E+F)

E 145° (F+E+E).(B+C-F)(E+C-D)(E-C-D)

At the sign, use the lady's full name, how many:
Letter N's = G
Vowels = H
Letter S's = J
Letter O's = K

3) Work out the final GZ

S 37° 4G.K(H+K)J

E 145° 14.(H+E)E(F-K-D)

Please say Hi to Daughter of Gunks, Goldilocks Smurfette!
