Original announcement from January 2020
Come to Independence, Iowa, to celebrate 20 years of geocaching while earning the special geocache icon type.
During the event, door prizes of FTF caches and other items will be available. Also, you can charge your electrical devices, compare notes on recent finds, and share wisdom of "going caching."
Watch for new caches being placed in Buchanan County leading up to the event. Also, batches of geocaches will be released on the day of of the event for people to seek prior to the celebration.
April 29, 2020 Update
To comply with the guidance for no gatherings of ten or more people, the following provisions are being implemented.
a. I have permission to use the parking lot for this celebration event, though the facility will not be open.
b. I will sit at the entrance of the building with the logbook.
c. This is a contactless log signing event. When you arrive at Heartland Acres, drive past the entrance. Hold up a sign with you geocaching name and I will write your name on the log. There will be no need to get out of your vehicle.
d. You do not need to stay onsite for the complete two hours to log this event. You can come and go if you please.
e. If you do want to get out of your car to stretch your legs, you can park anywhere in the parking lot. Please respect the guidance we have heard repeatedly over the last six weeks of six feet apart and no groups larger than ten. You can bring food from one of the local restaurants to Heartland Acres to picnic next to the pond.
I have door prizes that I planned to distribute over the two-hour event as incentive to arrive early and stay late. Instead, I will draw names from everyone logging a Will-Attend prior to 7 am on Sunday, May 3. If you are one of the lucky Will-Attend door prize winners, I will offer you the door prize when you drive past the entrance to log your visit. You are under no obligation to accept the token.
