Marion County West Virginia truly is the Middle of Everywhere and with fantastic food, spacious parks, and rich history, there is something for everyone! With over 300 geocaches already published throughout the area, Marion County is a geocacher's playground. This summer, the Convention and Visitor Bureau of Marion County, in conjunction with local cachers KilllerBee and TroopBiz are releasing a new geocaching trail comprised of FIFTEEN GADGET CACHES! Come join us on Saturday, August 7th at the Visitor Center in Fairmont West Virginia to learn what this trail is all about, meet the creators of the trail, and maybe even grab a pepperoni roll!

For the first hour of this event, you'll get the chance to hear from the makers of the trail as well as the Executive Director of the Marion County Convention Bureau, Mrs. Leisha Elliot! About the Marion County Visitor Center

The Marion County Convention and Visitor Bureau is located just off I-79 Exit 136 in Fairmont, WV. What used to be a children's shelter has been relocated and refurbished into office space to host the Marion County CVB and Marion County Parks and Recreation. The facility will be open during the event for cachers to trail, pick up informational materials, use the restrooms, and help themselves with some light refreshments. Free internet will be available at the center to make it easy for you to plan your route for the day! Event staff will be on site to give directional information and suggestions as well.

Limited parking is available in the lot located at the visitor center, however, overflow parking can be found just a short walk away at the Korean War Memorial and East Marion Park Pavillion lot. Both parking options are listed and linked in the waypoints below.

About the Gadget Caches of Marion County Trail

Uniquely situated between Morgantown and Clarksburg, Marion County is the Middle of Everywhere! With flavorful food, adventurous recreational options, and more breathtaking views than you can count, Marion County has something for everywhere. The NEW Gadgets of Marion County Trail is designed to showcase the local businesses, parks, and history that makes this county great! Fifteen gadget caches have been placed in key points of interest around the county. Find fourteen out of the fifteen and earn a special 2021 Trackable Geocoin!

These won't be your typical park and grab geocaches, however. This geo trail is uniquely designed to challenge new and seasoned cachers alike. Each stop will feature a gadget cache that cachers will need to solve a field puzzle in order to access the logbook. Some caches will be easier than others. Cachers will need to locate and solve fourteen of the fifteen caches and obtain a special code word found inside the logbook to claim their 2021 Trackable Geocoin.

This trail will require geocachers to travel to all corners of the county in a weekend-long adventure. Take time to stop at the restaurants, visit the shops, and explore the history of the county along the way!

A few things to note before the caches publish.

1. One cache will require cachers to bring a 9V battery. I also strongly encourage you to bring a flashlight as you will need it for at least three geocaches on the tour. All tools to access the other caches will be supplied.

2. One cache is located inside a public library and will publish on Friday morning to allow people a wider window to access this cache. The library is open Friday 9-5, Saturday 9-1, and closed on Sunday.

3. There is one night cache on this trail that MUST be completed at night. As a result, coins for this geo trail will not be made available until Sunday, August 8th.

About the Discover Marion County Geo Trail

Last summer, the Marion County Convention and Visitor Bureau released a ten-stop geocaching trail that highlighted the historical and scenic locations around the county! Coins are still available for this trail, and if you haven't already completed it, plan on finding these 10 geocaches along the way. 25 caches, two coins, one awesome weekend.
