August in the Desert on International Geocaching Day!
Knowing I just can't compete with past Community Celebration Events like the OCB Chili Cook Off or National Bison Day to name a couple, I realized I could still make my "mark" and host my Community Celebration Event on International Geocaching Day! I welcome you to the High Desert....in August....to join me in the morning at the beautiful Apollo Community Regional Park located in Lancaster, CA. This park was named for the Apollo 11 astronauts who first journeyed to the moon. It used to house a replica of the Apollo 11 Space Capsule on the grounds, but it was removed in 2007 and restored at Spaceworks in Kansas and is currently displayed in Downey, CA at the Columbia Memorial Space Center where the Apollo space craft were originally built.
The park is full of beautiful shade trees, 3 man made lakes and is pet friendly (dogs must be on a leash). This area is also known as "Grizzly Bear Pond" where local geocacher, reptilejch and his dog Grizzly, have hidden some challenging geocaches. Bring along a snack to enjoy while enjoying the hopefully cool-ish morning under the shade trees in the park. Not only will you receive a special icon for attending a Community Celebration Event, but it's also International Geocaching Day and this event will qualify for a special Virtual Souvenir!
Community Celebration Events - 2020
