Community Celebration Event 2020 & SLAGA Fall Picnic & Halloween Party

Wow!  That's a lot to pack into a single event, but we're going to try!

First of all, this event is a special Community Celebration Event for Groundspeak's 20th Anniversary.  That means you'll get a special souvenir for this event when you submit your Attended log.

Second, it's the annual SLAGA Fall Picnic, which means there'll be food.  (But keep reading because there are changes!)

Third, it's also SLAGA's Halloween event, which means there'll be fun!

This year has been challenging, to say the least, with hundreds of events of all kinds - conventions, geocaching, etc. - being canceled or postponed into the distant future.  SLAGA events have been no exception.  We missed out on the Spring Picnic and several happy hours.  For some, it's been months since we've been able to see one another and enjoy our group activities together.

Because of COVID-19, and in the interest of everyone's safety and well-being, we are planning the Fall Picnic/Halloween Party a little differently.

First off, masks will be required to attend the event, due to St. Louis County Health Department guidelines.  You will also have your temperature taken by a touchless digital thermometer, again due to St. Louis County Health Department guidelines.

The second most obvious change will be that SLAGA will not be providing and cooking meat for attendees.  We are also doing away with the 'bring and share' food part of the picnic.  Attendees will be responsible for bringing their own food and drinks, so as to limit possible cross-contamination.  The only food that will be served by SLAGA will be the Celebration Event cake, which will be handled by two volunteers for slicing and placing on paper plates with disposable cutlery.

But what kind of cake?  Chocolate?  Vanilla?  Carrot?  Other?  To help determine the flavor(s), please mark your preference in your Will Attend log.  The flavor(s) mentioned the most will be considered for the cake(s).

We'll have a costume contest this year, too.  There will be two categories:  Adults and Kids, with a prize for each category.  Be creative!

In addition to the usual raffle, there will be an attendance prize drawing, so be sure to stop by the registration table and get your attendance prize ticket when you sign the log sheet and get your temperature taken.

Group photo:  cootie_man will be taking the (socially distanced) panoramic group photo at 12:30.

One thing that won't change is the enthusiasm of SLAGA members to join in on festivities and to visit with friends!  As with any major SLAGA event, the host relies on the kindness of its membership to volunteer to help out.  That means we'll need many hands for setup, travel bugs, raffles, and tear-down.  Please post in your Will Attend any volunteer positions you can help us with!

Post your Will Attend soon so you can be kept up to date with Announcements.  We are optimistic that this event will happen, but SLAGA will defer to any County requirements which could come up due to this evolving COVID-19 situation.  Hopefully, we will see you in October!

Don't forget:  This is also the annual event where new officers are announced, so you definitely want to be in attendance to find out who won the election!
