Central Coast Caching Celebration Community Celebration Event

This cache has been archived.

barefootjeff: Everyone who signed the logsheet has now logged online and all the trackables have been logged out so it's time to consign this to the archives. Thanks everyone for attending, and just in case anyone is still scratching their head, I've attached the solution to the Classic Central Coast Caches game.

Geocache Description:

27 November 2022, 13:00 - 15:00

Geocaching began in May 2000 shortly after GPS Selective Availability was switched off (now commemorated as Blue Switch day), but the first geocache on the Central Coast wasn't hidden until January 2001. That cache was Aero-Vale (GC17C) hidden at Warnervale by Rob and Kazz. Sadly in 2015 its ammo can was replaced by an M&M tube throwdown which went the way of most such things, leading to its archival in October 2016.

More recenty Head Like a Box (GC2471), hidden in October 2001, suffered a similar fate, firstly being replaced by a throwdown after the original went missing in 2019 and then archived in 2020 when the throwdown also disappeared.

Three other caches from that year are still in play, though:

  • GC72C #4 Wonderful by Hounddog hidden in April 2001
  • GC1C47 #18 The Thin Black Line by Hounddog hidden in September 2001
  • GC1CD1 #19 Haunted Highway by Hounddog hidden in September 2001

The rest, they say, is history, and to mark that history is this Community Celebration Event in the Peninsula Recreation Precinct at Umina Beach.

Picnic area

There will be activities and give-aways to keep everyone amused. There's shelter over the picnic tables, which is why I picked this venue given the high likelihood of rain, but if it gets too wet we can adjourn to more substantial cover nearby. There's a cafe in the park and at the nearby surf club if you get hungry or thirsty, as well as the beach itself if you want to swim.

I'll arrive early to try to secure a table and will post an announcement and coordinates update if need be.
