-------------------------------------------------------------------------

After only 8 years of Geocaching, I'm finally hosting an event!  Time to Celebrate!!

To be honest, I didn't really have a choice.  You see, back in 2020 I was awarded this Celebration Event, and then 2020 "happened" and this Event along with many others, was put on hold.

Now more than 2 years later, and with time running out in 2022, this Celebration Event needs to happen!

This past year I bounced ideas off many of you on a theme for this Celebration Event or perhaps a venue.  Some wanted BEER, others wanted 2 for 1 steak, and another didn't care as long as it was on a Tuesday.  All good suggestions, but I kept thinking I wanted my first ever event to be special.

Then it hit me.

It's not the place, or the theme of the event that makes them special.  It's the people, like you that attend them.

This is a Communinty Celebration Event.  Without this amazing Community of Geocachers, this game we all know and love just would not be the same and without the Global Geocaching Community, the game would not exist.

So we are not here to celebrate my first hosted event, the streaks or the FTFs that we may have achieved.  There is already a great Milstones event for that.  This simply is an event that celebrates exactly what is it named after; our Community of cachers.  This event celebrates YOU! **

CraneFamily4 (AKA The Lone Cranger, AKA Sandles the Bushwaker) introduced me to Geocaching, who I passed on to my brother, Bubba da darter.  I remember the first Geocacher I met in the wild was NinjaFairies, who was looking for an FTF, shocking I know.  I remember being at a Scouts Canada event, and I was wearing my Scouts "ScooterRichard" ball cap, and a not yet familiar voice called from behind me.. "ScooterRichard.. I've seen that name before".  It was Jockser.  I remember Cailloupot scaring the crap out of me as I approached a cache for a FTF attempt.  Of course he beat me to it.  I think he may even have commented something like "I own the South". 🤣  I remember meeting scavengermonkeys at my first CITO event, and ZeiraZeira at CARW.

Then I started attending events regularly, and not because I was really interested in meeting more people, but because someone put out a Challenge Cache.  Oddly enough, the more events I attended, the more people I met.  People of all ages, walks of life, and life experiences, and something that we all had in common.  Geocaching.  So, thank-you for that one Challenge Cache that opened up my life to so much more than finding broken tupperware and signing damp stinky pieces of paper.

Who knows.  Maybe someday I'll actually host another event.  Jockser says it's easy.

** If you really want to Celebrate my first ever hosted event, I'm not going to turn down a BEER.
