As Newington Armory and its buildings are heritage listed, no alterations can be made, but the buildings can be reused for other purposes. Building 18 was once used as a storehouse well away from other buildings and surrounded by a high earth traverse which acted as a protective barrier around the building in case of an impact.
Today the building is used as an art gallery primary for two main exhibitions:
- Art Express – a showcase of the best works presented by Art student during the HSC
- Operation Art – art created by school children that will go on to adorn the walls of the Children’s Hospital to help brighten the patient’s day
*Access to Newington Armory is available 7 days a week between 9am and 5pm, using the existing pedestrian gates.
