Will we have an early spring? Will the groundhog see its shadow and hibernate us all for 6 more weeks? It's anyone's guess.
Come to The Wilderness Center on Feb 1 for our annual night hike as we anticipate the arrival of spring or the reality of more winter weather. There will be new caches to find on all 6 trails. The event will be held rain, shine, or snow flurries so dress accordingly. This is the ONLY time geocaching is allowed on the trails after dark. Return to TWC to find all the geocaches on the property anytime during daylight hours.
Begin your evening at 5:30 inside the Interpretive Building. Come up the stairs to the Buckeye Room. Sign in, load your GPSr if needed, mingle with friends, or head out to the trails. Hike one trail, all six, or stay inside and keep warm. The choice is yours. We need everyone off the trails by 9pm. Don't let your vehicle get locked inside the gate beacuse you are late.....
New this year, and by request of the Wilderness Center, is the use of red light. We are being asked to use red filtered flashlights when out hiking. TWC is making an effort to reduce light pollution and eliminate night blindness for animals. This is not a requirement, but a request to contribute to the efforts of TWC towards conservation. Please consider bringing or using this feature if you have one. If we are lucky, there will be a blanket of fresh snow and a bright moon making perfect conditions to see in the dark without the use of artificial light.
Hot chocolate, coffee, and water will be provided. Donations of cookies/brownies/finger foods to share are welcome and much appreciated! There will be a 50/50 drawing to help offset the expenses and we will have door prizes! When you are done hiking the trails, please feel free to come back inside and join us for refreshments.
