Geocache Description:

About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

This is a Puzzle cache and is NOT located at the published co-ords.

The location of the former Avon Lodge Halt has been developed into the private estate of Avon Castle Drive. This cache is hidden some distance away further south, above a section of the former track .

There is Rhododendron overgrowth in places, but there are dirt trails leading to within a very short distance of this cache.

Brief background history of Avon Lodge Halt.
When the land was being purchased for the Ringwood,Christchurch and Bournemouth Railway one of the conditions of sale for some of the land was that the Land owner was provided with two "private halts".
One of these halts was Avon Lodge Halt at the headline co-ords.
At these halts the landowner or tenants would have at all times the right to stop any ordinary train by exhibiting a red flag by day and a red lamp at night.

Later this right came into dispute with the introduction of a new through-service to Bournemouth from London. It was argued by the railway company that the right to stop the fast trains would render it practically impossible to run the service.

To locate the final co-ords answer the following questions.

When was the line opened = 18AB

When was the line closed = 19CD

When was the "dispute" = 1EF2

The amount of revenue generated from Avon Lodge Halt in 1888 = £G0
