Years and years ago now I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carl Edwards, NASCAR superstar, at a nearby store of his sponsor's. After a lifetime of hanging around racetracks and always having my favorites, Carl was (and I'm sure still is) one of the most gracious drivers out there. He was also very talented. This combination made him extrememly popular, and he was far and away my favorite driver of all time. I use the past tense because in 2017, just days after missing out on the NASCAR title by INCHES for the second time, in the height of his career and working for the most sucessful team in NASCAR, Carl unexpectedly retired from racing. This was a few days after I got my 'Carlfan' personalized lisence plate in the mail. :-)
At the time, it seemed as if Carl was just ready to be done, and he certainly had every right to make that decision for himself and for his family, but boy, has NASCAR and his fans missed him these past few years. I have missed him. Usually when the stars retire we still see them come back as commentators or owners. Carl has barely shown his face around a race track, but is rather farming and raising his kids out of the limelight. I whole-heartedly wish him the best...but still hold out hope for news of that broadcasting job. Carl, are you ever coming back?
I had a cache here a while back, but the larger container had a habit of disappearing. I hope this nano has better luck. Enjoy!
