In January 1901, the Woodbury Daily Times reported that "As February nears the Rail Road men are experiencing a sort of dread for fear the blizzard of two years ago may be repeated."
Their dread was well earned - the Great Blizzard of 1899 is one of the worst snow storms to ever hit the east coast. Temperatures in Tallahassee, Florida went below zero for the only time in that state's recorded history. Closer to home, Philadelphia saw temperatures plunge to -6 degrees while wind chills plunged into the -20s. But it wasn't just cold, most of the Delaware Valley, from Cape May to Philadelphia, had nearly three FEET of snow.
The storm would impact pretty much everything east of the Mississippi River, bringing much of the country to a grinding halt.
Wenonah Woods is open dawn to dusk, 365 days a year. Please respect the hours on these trails, especially as they often times pass right along the edges of people's property. Also, please use official trailheads and do not cut through people's property. These trails have some ups and downs, as well as some wet spots, although the town does an amazing job of maintaining them.
Please replace cache exactly as you found it.
SAFETY NOTE - Cache is right along the trail. No need to climb anywhere for this or to get wet to get this one. I have lots of little ones... "Be Safe" is a big rule in our house!
Congrats to gumshoeDOTus on the FTF!
