Geocache Description:

The geocache is not at the posted coordinates - this is an offset cache. See below on how to find the cache.

This is one of five caches we have placed for the 2020 Waukesha Winter Janboree. The Janboree’s theme this year is “ADVENTURE AWAITS.” You’re looking for a magnetic cache hidden in the park at Waukesha’s Fox River Sanctuary. Stealth will likely be required. Parking is available in the parking lot at N43 00.190 W88 14.670.

This cache also is a launch point for 9 new butterfly travel bugs (see below). The travel bugs are not to keep; they are to move along to another cache. If you’re one of the first 9 finders taking a travel bug to move along, please take only one per team/family.

The first stage is located at a little butterfly garden with a bench and formerly two butterfly houses. The geocache is NOT located there and there is not a geocache stage marker located anywhere near there. From stage one, you’re less than 200 feet away from the cache. Head approximately 188 feet at a bearing of 06 degrees and you’ll come to a structure that is magnetic. You’ll find the cache about a foot or two above the ground!

The butterfly houses were created as an Eagle Scout project by the son of one of Mrs. Hack’s co-workers. Many of our geocaching adventures have brought us to see the results of Eagle Scout projects so this seemed a fitting location to highlight. We also happen to love butterflies and have hidden several other butterfly caches, one along the Menomonee River in Wauwatosa (GC38900), one at Lapham Peak in the Kettle Moraine State Forest (GC4W6FX), and one in Wauwatosa as part of a Monarch butterfly sanctuary (GC6AM3J). Any of those caches will offer you yet another butterfly adventure!

BUTTERFLY TRAVEL BUG LAUNCH
The butterfly travel bugs are trackable items with a trackable code. If you’re one of the first finders of the cache and take a trackable, please log the trackable code at geocaching.com and move it along to another cache.

You can follow the flight of the butterflies here:

Enjoy the butterflies, the park, and the nearby Fox River!
