CZECHIA (Czech Republic)

Czechia, also known as the Czech Republic is an EU country in Central Europe bordered by Germany to the west, Austria to the south, Slovakia to the east, and Poland to the northeast. The Czech Republic is a landlocked country with a hilly landscape that covers an area of 78,866 square kilometers (30,450 sq mi) with a mostly temperate continental climate and oceanic climate. It is a unitary parliamentary republic, with 10.7 million inhabitants. Its capital and largest city is Prague, with 1.3 million residents
The Czech Republic has a developed, high-income export-oriented social market economy based in services, manufacturing and innovation. The Czech Republic participates in the European Single Market as a member of the European Union, and is therefore a part of the economy of the European Union, but uses its own currency, the Czech koruna, instead of the euro. Major exports from the Czech Republic include trucks and automobiles, railcars, and trams. In fact, nearly 1/3 of the world's trams are made in Czech factories. Tourism is also an important part of the economy, and Prague is the fifth most visited city in Europe after London, Paris, Istanbul and Rome.
Czech Republic is also known for its Ice Hockey players. Internationally, the Czech Republic is part of the unofficial "Big Six" teams (along with Canada, USA, Finland, Sweden and Russia) that dominate international tournament play. The Czech Men's team won Gold at the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, a team that included the player you will read about further in the puzzle below.
