Scattered throughout this part of the Denman Wildlife Area are growing evidence some of these locations were homesteads and farms. This lone survivor, outstanding in its field, is a prime example. This kind of plant seldom seeds a new place without human help. In the fall the brilliant red of this hardy specimen is a bright spot on a cloudy day and a flare of fire when the sun is out.
