Geocache Description:

Obec KECHNEC

V roku 1427 nebola zdanená, v roku 1630 odovzdala deviatok z 1 porty; v roku 1715 mala 6 domácností, v roku 1720 mala 2 domácnosti, v roku 1772 mala 3 pusté usadlosti, 19 gazdov a 8 želiarov, v roku 1828 mala obec 85 domov a 633 obyvateľov.

V okolí dediny prebiehali neľútostné boje, pravdepodobne o dôležitý most Hidásnémeti.
Vyšiel z Miškovca a cieľovú stanicu mal v Košiciach.

KECHNEC village
From 1964 to 1986, Kechnec was part of the artificially created village of Hraničná near Hornád, in which three municipalities were grouped - besides Kechnec, also Milhosť and Seňa. In 1986 the village disintegrated by the grace of Grace and Seňa and Kechnec formed the village of Seňa. In 1990, the village Kechnec became independent, which brought the administrative boundaries of municipalities in the area before 1964.

The name of the village is documented from 1220 as Felnemet, from 1278 as Felnempty, from 1319 as Fwlnempthy, from 1405 as Felnempty, al. n. Kemnech-Keghnech, from 1430 as Kechnicznemethi, from 1564 as Kechnecz-Némethy, from 1630 as Kenyhecz, from 1808 as Kehňec, from 1920 as Keňhec, from 1927 as Kechnec; in Hungarian Kenyhec.

The municipality was administratively included in the Abov-Turnian county; before 1960 under district Košice, region Košice; after 1960 under the district of Košice-countryside, East Slovakia region.

Settlement in the Younger Paleolithic - huts of Aurignack culture, a settlement of Neolithic side-mountain culture, sawdust culture from the Early Bronze Age, Hallstatt burial ground, Roman-barbaric settlement finds, Slavic-Avar burial ground. The village is documented in 1220, when the old Slavic village belonging to the queen, then settled German guests. In 1427 she was not taxed, in 1630 she handed out nine of 1 ports; in 1715 it had 6 households, in 1720 it had 2 households, in 1772 it had 3 desolate settlements, 19 farms and 8 geeks, in 1828 the village had 85 houses and 633 inhabitants. In the 15th century it belonged to the Perényi family, later to several owners. The inhabitants were engaged in agriculture. In 1938-45 the village was annexed to Hungary.
The then importance of the village is confirmed by the information that through the territory of the village led an important trade route called Budinska or Pestianska. But it was often a great war route.
There were several important families in the village - the Kenyheczi and Csikovics families are worth mentioning. John Csikovics received Kechnec from King Leopold I in 1689 in Vienna.
Fierce fighting was taking place around the village, probably for the important bridge of Hidásnémeti. The Austrian soldiers who served the Emperor and the Court executed four villagers in the courtyard of the municipal tavern.

The village has also entered the history of rail transport. The first train passed through the village on July 5, 1860. He left Miškovec and had his destination in Košice.
