Scottsdale Xeriscape Garden
Meet & Greet Plus
Monday January 20, 2020
8:30 am - 10:00 am
MEET THE PRESS:
Some of my social media geocaching friends put a channel 12 news producer in touch with me about doing a piece on geocaching. This event is the result of that contact.
Join me for this unique opportunity to help Channel 12 News do a story that showcases geocaching in Arizona. They wanted to meet some geocachers and find a geocache as part of their story. I suggested and they agreed one of the best ways for them to do this might be via a typical meet and greet event where a good cross section of our community would be represented. Come on out. Let's show them what geocaching is all about.
Event Notes & Highlights:
- Channel 12's cameras will be rolling at 9:00 am ( An 8:30 am event start gives all a chance to be on site prior to camera start.)
- My virtual rewards cache is located in the garden. If you haven't had a chance to find it yet this may be a great opportunity to do so.
- There is likely to be 3 newly traditional caches published during the event. FTF honors available for all attendees.
- There will either be a drawing for some geocache related goodies or some giveaways for noteworthy geocaching milestones.
- You are on your own for food and drink
CHECKIN' IN:
Besides this opportunity to spread the word about the special world of geocaching I have a secondary personal reason for holding this meet & greet. Some six months ago Nana18 & Lookin' Good held a Flash Mob Event (GC8BH66) in my honor along the Arizona Canal near my house. At the time I was undergoing some pretty heavy duty chemotheraphy for pancreatic cancer. Because of the some of the side effects associated with chemo treatments I wasn't sure I would be able to do much more than wave at my geo friends from my side of the canal. It turned out to be a good day for me and I was able to join the group for a bit on the opposite side of the canal from my house. It was a great and uplifting show of support. I loved it. Since then I have only been able to attend one event. I miss the face to face interaction and camaraderie of the geo-community.
The good news for me is that the weekly chemo infusions as well as the daily radiation treatments that followed will be over by the date of this event. While I still have a major surgery ahead of me I am feeling much better these days. I also conveniently get about a month long treatment recess before surgery. I'd like to use this time and unique opportunity with Channel 12 to hold this event that highlights geocaching and allows me to have some much missed face to face time with my geocaching family.
Come by and say "Hi". I'd love to see you.
